5. Unforgiven
Breaking into the top 5 of this list is the Clint Eastwood directed film Unforgiven. Starring Eastwood himself, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman and Richard Harris, this revisionist Western film narrated the story of an outlaw and killer who takes on one last job after turning a farmer years ago. It became the most nominated movie at that year’s Acamdey awards – 9 nominations – a record that it holds with another film on this list – Howards End. It then won 4 Oscars – the most for any film that year. It won Best Picture, Best Director for Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Jackman and Best Film Editing. It spawned off a Japanese remake in 2013 by the same name and is generally regarded as one of the best Western films of all time.
