The film won 9 Academy nominations that year – the most for any film that year- a record that it tied with another film on this list. It won 3 of them – Best Actress for Thompson, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Art Direction.

9. Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Romantic horror film Bram Stoker’s Dracula grabs the 9th spot on our list. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves, it tells the story of centuries old vampire Count Dracula who travels to England to find his wife who has been reincarnated. It gave cine-goers the iconic song Love Song for a Vampire by Annie Lennox, which was a worldwide hit. It was a huge commercial success earning more than $215 million, becoming the 9th highest-grosser of that year. Critically too, it was highly acclaimed. It received 3 Oscars from its four nominations. It won Best Makeup, Best Costume Design and Best Sound Editing. The only category it lost to was Best Art Direction/Set Decoration.

8. A Few Good Men

Next up at number 8 is A Few Good Men starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore. Centering around the court-martial of two US Marines who are charged with the murder of a fellow Marine, this legal drama was directed by Rob Reiner. It was adapted from the 1989 play by the same name by Aaron Sorkin. Nominated for 4 Academy awards, it became the 7th highest-grosser of 1992 with $243 million.
