Gareth Thomas is a now retired rugby player who had appeared in some 100 test matches that made him the most capped Welsh rugby union player of his time. Back in 2009, he came out as gay and subsequently received Stonewall’s Hero of the Year award and was even voted as the most influential gay person in the UK. He was married to his childhood sweetheart for several years until he decided to tell her that he’s gay and they parted. He hopes to inspire young rugby players to accept their sexuality. As a result, Gareth now is one of the most popular LGBT celebrities.
